The Royals of Woodland FC earned a massive win on the road in Gladstone, MO, against Northland FC. From the opening whistle, Woodland was determined to make Northland pay the price for every mistake they made.
In the 4', Derrick Carson forced a turnover from a lax pass out of the back, and played Chandler Givler through on the right wing. Givler crossed into the box, straight into the keeper's hands. He fumbled the cross, and Jackson was there to pounce and tap in the loose ball. This was goal was monumental for the club, and for Jackson, as that goal pushed him past Joseph Caughron for the all-time lead in career goals for the club.
1-0
The Royals made the field almost appear tiled toward the Northland goal, as they continued to lay seige to the Northland goal. Northland resisted well for the next 20 minutes, before Jake Hilpertshauser opened his account off a pass from Diego Mendoza. Hilpertshauser found himself in space to ghost in and tap home the scuffed shot from Mendoza.
2-0
Woodland would continue to find purchase along the Northland penalty box. Maguire Hardin played a long diagonal ball that was intended for Brett Jackson. Jackson chased it wide of the keeper, and even though his angle was lost, he squared it to the late-arriving Federico Verlicchi who smashed it home to complete the transaction.
3-0
In the 42', Diego Mendoza played an excellent through ball that bounced right at the top of the box, and lost all momentum. Verlicchi raced onto the ball, rounded the keeper, and slotted home from close to extend the lead. Woodland's 3rd goal from within the 6-yard box.
4-0
Right on the stroke of halftime, Givler played a long free kick into the box from the right wing. The ball caromed around the box before it landed at the feet of Jake Hilpertshauser. He slid it cooly to Jackson who lashed it home with his left.
5-0
Halftime
10' into the 2nd half Garrett Wright was subbed in to make his Woodland FC debut. The corner kick was played into the box, and appeared to strike a Northland FC player's arm in a natural position. A harsh call, but referee pointed to the spot. Coach Bowler called up Wright to take the PK. It was his first ever touch of a ball in a WFC shirt, and sure enough, he struck it pure and true into the top corner to extend the lead from the spot.
6-0.
The match would hold at that score for the remainder of the match. A commanding win for the Royals. They maintain 2nd place. Their next match is against Antioch Park Rangers this Friday, May 9th, at 6:00PM.
